Tour 2006

Llandrindod Wells RFC ended a successful season with an end of season tour to Amsterdam.

After two nights sampling the local nightlife and after Tom Underhill had dried off after a swim in the canal and Desi Evans was finally located after two nights missing in action, the thirty strong party, made their way to play a Sunday match against RC Eemland of Amersfoort.

The game started at a fast pace as a physical Dutch team threw their weight about. They took the lead when their winger chased down a long kick to score underneath the posts, the try being converted. Llandrindod soon responded when a lovely reverse pass from prop Lee Houston gave Andrew Duggan the chance to live up to his nickname 'Flash' as he sprinted away to score in the corner, the try converted by Danny Davies.

The busiest men in the second half were the Llandrindod water carriers Mike and Jimmy Martin as the visitors found it hard going. Tom Hughes scored following a quick tap penalty to put Llandrindod back ahead but Eemland soon responded with a try of their own. Llandrindod then regained the lead after good interplay between Russell Charrock and Ben Duggan put Man of the Match Dicky Lewis over under the posts. Danny Davies converted.

By this time only 14 players out of the initial 21 remained for Llandrindod as bodies were strewn all over the touchline. Eemland then scored a last minute try and the game ended in a 19-19 draw, a result everyone seemed happy with. It was then back to Eemland's pitchside clubhouse before a final night in Amsterdam.

For the boys who didn't have the sense to get a flight home, a gruelling 16 hour bus journey the next day finished another hugely eventful tour.
